The first time I saw this in Germany, I fully vowed to never allow my future children to do the same. 🙈
I mean, I learned how to ride a bike in Canada as a kid, but not quite to the level we do here in Germany.
It seemed risky. BUT… did you know that kids in Germany get their cycling license in elementary school? 😱
They spend hours learning the rules of the road. I had no idea!
I’ve had my fair share of nasty bike accidents learning the ropes without a childhood bike license, but now that I’m fully “integrated,” I couldn’t imagine living a day without my bike. 🚲

Actually depends on where you live. I grew up in a small village where the bus only stops once every hour and only drives into the next bigger town. So we had one school bus for the elementary school kids (elementary school was in another village nearby), one “normal” city bus that drove into the city to the two “Gymnasiums” there, one school bus that drove to the “Realschule” in the city, because the city bus didn’t stop there and one school bus that drive to the “Realschule” in another nearby village. But because my father worked in the city, he often drove me himself. Sometimes I went by bike, it was a 9km drive that way, but it always was fun.
