Hi experts, I have a dilemma.
I bought this trailer to take my dog for walks, but it attaches to my bike via a thru-axle. I wanted to try it on a Trek Checkpoint, but the connector’s diameter is smaller than the axle’s. Do you think I can drill it out a few millimeters to make it fit, or would you recommend trying it on a different bike?

Does the trailer have a thru axle adaptor?
Drill
You need to buy a Robert Axle Project thru axle. If you just drill the trailer hitch out to 12mm, the axle won’t thread into the frame far enough.

Your missing some pieces, don’t drill. Be patient for the pups sake.
dont attach it that way. there are thru axle adapters that are made for that exact case. not sure about what company supplies those in your area but where i live the best ones are from thule.
Not intended for a thru axle but a stud and on a stronger axle hence sizing in this way so people don’t try and use it the way you described.
Robert Axle Project part [Kid221](https://robertaxleproject.com/product/12×142-1-75-mm-thread-for-hitch-mount-trailer/) should be what you need. That looks like a gen2. Trek dealers (or most any bike shop) can get you that too if you like supporting your local bike shop.
Why won’t you let your dog exercise?
