Yes, I know MTB is expensive but what are some really good DH bikes as a first bike? Should I go the used route?
I live in Vail which is where I plan to do the majority of my riding. I've been riding since I was a kid primarily on rentals most seasons; this was fine but I'm tired of doing this process every single time. I was going to pick my first one up last year but broke my back during the ski season (Transverse process, nothing serious).
I would like to not exceed $3k USD if possible. I found this bike on sale but honestly don't know enough to judge whether this is a good bike or not.
I'm not planning on ever doing massive jumps or anything insanely risky on a bike, I save all that for the winter and I don't want to compromise my ski seasons. I just like to go fast, maybe get a little air, and don't mind tough terrain.

maybe look for gt fury’s? or maybe an aggressive enduro bike would fit your budget better like a transition spire
That status would be a fantastic park bike! Currently specalized has them on sale for 2k!

If you are planning on only doing bike park, the status 2 DH is on sale for 3K
Honestly, used is probably the way to go. So long as you know what you’re looking for, you can find bikes for 1/3 the original price
The problem with entry level downhill bikes that they don’t exist. Every bikes has to survive jumps, and difficult tracks. You can buy entry level wheels and shifting components, which will work great, but the frame and suspension will cost you 2-3000€.
You can buy old 26 inch bikes, but 2017+ bikes and 27,5″ wheelsize are superior.Â
