I’m doing a similar trip this summer in france and Switzerland… I’ll try this too.
Have you found any errors in the results?

Did actually get a GPX file out of it? ChatGPT is great at offering things it can’t do in those ‘if you like I can…’ sections.

In its current state, it could never replace Komoot, Garmin or Wahoo. They all use actual route finding algorithms and GPS data to plan routes from A to B. ChatGPT generates text that makes it sound like it could do that. It can’t. Maybe one day it’ll integrate a route planning service, but right now, it’s just bullshitting

I’ve tried it a number of times with both Gemini and chatgpt. It is horrible at trip planning. Like really bad. Just use komoot.

Sure, on a popular route that is highly written about, I’m sure it can steal people’s ideas of things to do.

But the thought that it will know that road conditions on an obscure rural road are better than the popular waterfront trail for a 30km stretch before going back to the trail? No way.

  5. I have found it frequently makes errors in distance calculation.
In addition, unless you carefully prompt and verify, it will route you into some tricky cycling areas, like busy roads.
For overall suggestions on areas to go or high level, “where are well reviewed areas to cycle” it does great.

  6. 30-32mm tyre section… Come on.
Today people won’t be able to think from themselves or plan a route.

  7. I don’t know if I’d personally use it to creat a route for me. But something that might be interesting to play around with is a model that you could feed a GPX file to, and have it recommend points of interest along the route and have it give a little blurb about each.
