Idiots. You are there to race. It is what you are paid for, it is what we, the viewer is paying for. Do you know how much a TNT subscription costs….? Nobody is watching this sport for a bunch of little boys to say, 'yeah well we decided not to race at the end – this is cycling……' Relegate these lads please, they don't have the temperament for the Classics….

4 guys who don't win that often finally get a chance to win a big classic race; in a time when cycling is dominated by two super talents; and the one time one of those super talents miscalculates and overexerts himself and they can catch him, leave him behind and actually win the race … they instead decide to fight among each other and let the super talent win anyway and still race for the second place.
Absolutely ridiculous.
These highlights didn't show the moment when the gap was down to 2 or 3 seconds and MVDP freewheeled for a moment as if he was giving up but then went again. That was the moment the chasers stopped.

Until Sanremo any recent race with MVDP in the line up was a bit of forgone conclusion but this was such a thrilling watch for the last 40ks.
It's just a part of professional cycling that needs to be questioned. The win means everything and they have a mindset that working for second is the job of somebody else. In this case working to contend the sprint finish, is left to others. Then, after failure they look ridiculous and we're all crying for blood.
I think the DS giys need to get a reality check and tell riders to commit fully even if it means coming in last.
MvDP was lucky. Yes he made it hapen to an extent but if he'd have been challenged, by his own admission, he had no sprint legs left. That means one of the two riders who got nothing would have podiumed.
Someone needs to work out the best odds for a result and commit to chasing if it favours getting something out of nothing.
