I couldn’t find this information while choosing a tire for my Secan, so I wanted to put it here for anyone also considering this tire.
Haven’t ridden it yet, so this isn’t a review, just for reference.
The Tufo Thundero 48 HD setup tubeless at 30 psi measures about 46.7 wide on a 25mm internal width wheel. (External 32mm). I was on the fence between this and the 44 so I’m relieved it measured a bit small.
I don’t have the greatest caliper in the world, but it’s been spot on with known dimensions in the past.
Hope this helps.
Cheers less

Give it a couple of days and measure again
Which wheelset is it? How do you like it?
Effective tire width depends a lot on the wheel/rim.
Good choice of tires btw: they’re awesome (I run the same in 40mm), reliable, durable, supple and fast.
dude, just got ride your bike
They should widen a bit after a few rides.
This bike was just on Bikepacking.com?
did you recently order from Fairlight? To the US? Interested to know total costs including tariffs, kinda hard to decipher on their FAQ
Please for the love of god mount your bike using the seat post in your stand
Stoked about the 52s coming out
Interesting, my 44 Thundero HDs measure 45mm on 25mm internal rims. They get wider if I increase air pressure.
Waiting to be able to buy the 700×48 Swampero in the USA.
Mine are 48.5mm on 28mm internals, for reference.
I was actually just going to make a post about the Thunderos. Those tires are on my short list. However, I’m really suffering from tire selection paralysis. I ride pretty much everything with my bike; road, chunky gravel, screened limestone to packed dirt single track with lots of exposed roots and cut shrub trunks with some short climbs.
I’m currently on Schwable One Bites in 45s and they are starting to loose some bite on the single track. Are the Thunderos the tire for me or are there other options that will be better suited for me?
Keep it at high pressure for one night and measure again. Also 46mm for 48 announced is not shocking and honestly not a big deal at all.
Note that it takes about a day for tires to stretch under pressure. But yes, Thunderos are basically undersized. You already have a pretty wide rim and it’s still not really true to size.
