3,162 Miles of Roads, Rants, and Revelations

In November 2002, D. J. McCann stood on a beach in Morro Bay, California, and took an impulsive plunge that defied all conventional logic. Facing the simultaneous pressure of forced unemployment and the collapse of a long-term marriage, he hitched a yellow trailer named Bob to his bicycle and began pedalling toward the Atlantic.

This is the truthful account of a 3,162.4-mile winter crossing of the North American continent. It is a cinematic narrative of a man navigating the grit of the I-10 and the internal friction of his own memory. From the relentless weight of the trailer to the biting chill of the Southern winter, McCann deconstructs the systems of his life as he pedals toward an uncertain horizon.

The journey is defined by roads, rants, and a persistent ‘digital ghost’: the version of himself in the 2002 photograph that he can no longer fully recognise. Yet, amidst the mechanical realities of the road, a deeper logic emerges. The 3,162.4 miles were the necessary cost of a life audit that finally balanced.

It explores some adult themes related to my life, but there is nothing explicit.

It is now available for Kindle on Amazon, but a paperback edition will be available in the next few days. Amazon search :
