Day 2 of my little mini-tour in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. From the edge of the Peak District I set off early Sunday morning from Chesterfield and cross over into Nottinghamshire, heading for a rather special landmark inside Sherwood Forest! Then it’s a dash back to Chesterfield – and into a viscious headwind – to catch a late afternoon train home!
More easy cycling (apart from the headwind on the last 20 miles!), just enjoying the scenery and exploring the stories that live in the landscape … and that fired my imagination many years ago!
If you enjoy these little mini tour videos or my channel in general, please leave a comment and subscribe. It would be great to have your company on future rides!

Lovely conclusion to the mini-tour. I thought you might make it back to Chesterfield before the rain…
The flexibility and freedom of these trips can't be overstated – we soon forget about the rain, or direct routes, or Mansfield's maintenance issues.
I think the Sean Connery/Audrey Hepburn film adapted the Kirklees Priory version of the tale with Marian (doubling as an abbess) poisoning the pair of them at the end, with Robin managing to fire off an arrow which decides their final resting place.
Hi Martin, great to see you in Nottinghamshire,as for for the Robin Hood legend it’s a tough debating point, another fact is one of his merry men is buried in a church yard in Nottinghamshire,( Blidworth ),I think it’s Will Scarlet,if you decide on another tour over this way consider the Vale of Belvoir & look up Cafe Velo Verde a great cyclist cafe, all the best Colin P,👍
Lovely tour Martin. I know the Monsal area very well but never visited Sherwood Forest. I’d always heard that as Robin lay close to death in his room at Kirklees he called for his bow and arrow and said wherever this arrow lands, shall be my grave, so the buried him on top of the wardrobe.
Considering my Surname, I need to do this ride! Really enjoying your content, by the way! 👊
Hi Martin Great to follow your trip near where I live, new to this so thank you for sharing what’s on the door step
Keep going 👍🏻
I dragged my wife to Sherwood Forest.
"Neither Major nor Mighty!", quoth she.
Hello Martin, A big yes, I liked your mini tour and I would like you to do more of them please 🤞, yes the most famous oak is now so old it needs crutches to keep it up right and let's hope it's long into the future before it rots 🤞, lovely weather for most of the 2nd day a bonus, great cycling adventure for you and i enjoyed your bit of history about Robin or Roberts demise, great video and thanks for sharing Martin 👍 👏👋
I'm not sure if Robin Hood lived in Yorkshire! After all you saw the weather as you finished off your ride, and seeing if he lived in the grim north the weather would be even worse especially living in a forest 😂
Great video. Most places claim Robin Hood. I think we all need him back to steal from the Gov to fix our roads.
Great couple of vids. Lovely to get a few mins to yourself at the great oak. Bet that head wind back was brutal, but in a strange way we all love conquering them 😅
Top Notch Martin good to see some new countryside. I wonder if the stories are true but about Robin Hood but it’s made a lot of discussion. Take care. Cheers. B. K.
What a lovely mini-tour. Thanks for sharing.
Hi great adventure I've not rode the Monsal trail but I've done high peak and tissington trails . I did ride the Glorious Gravel in Sherwood Pines which was cool
