Here is my 1992 Kona Cinder Cone that I bought new when I was 16. It’s been passed around the family and sat in a shed for years. I fancy giving it a restomod treatment but worry I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Anyone have any opinions on whether to re-spray?

Nah leave it, patina is cool
I’m surprised those xt shifters work with that suntour derailleur. I thought they were incompatible
I would definitely not respray it. Take it completely apart, give it a thorough clean and protect the frame from the inside. After that, do whatever you want. I like restomods and that’s definitely something I would do. Here’s my Scab as inspiration.

If it was my bike, I would do a 1×9/10/11 conversion, alt bars and some good tires. You know, the usual shit you see around here.
Yes, but only the inside.

From the outside, just like with a car: clean, polish, wax. What’s left visible afterwards is called the ‘patina’.
Look up “Savetheratbike” on Instagram & have at it! This is a perfect project.
