Hi all, I’ve noticed a worsening creak coming from the front end of the Brompton. I have not been able to pinpoint it. It does this with or without luggage on the carrier block. I can make it make the noise by steering quickly back and forth. I’m wondering if it’s the hinge clamp because I have tightened the stem, headset, etc. already. My clamp plates are next up for replacement so maybe that will fix it… open to your suggestions and experiences!

  1. It might not be the front end even though it sounds like it, it could be the suspension block, its supposed to have a smear of grease on it to stop the creaking (I’m sure theres youtube videos) , it also might be the saddle, or bearings or etc etc etc

  2. Platypushaun on

Check the gap between the hinge clamp plate and the frame, which should be 0.9-3mm when the clamp is tightened. You need to check both the main frame hinge and the handlebar stem hinge.

  3. Just throwing this out there because it got me good. I was convinced a strange sound I was hearing was a mechanical problem on my C line.

It wasn’t. It was the strap from the bag on the front dangling down on the wheel..

Took me longer to realise than I’d like to admit!
