So I have a Schwinn bike that I’m trying to fix up. I’m already replacing the chain, the shifters, and the gear cables, but I’m wondering if I should replace the freewheel. It is a bit rusty and I did clean it today with a wire brush and some dish detergent. Some did come off but I’m wondering if it’s just wiser to replace it. And if I do replace it, would a cheap Amazon one be worth the hassle. It’s a very specific type. It’s an 8 speed 13-28T. Recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

Its discolored but still usable by all means. When you start seeing the teeth get worn down and feel it skipping under heavy load… then you will want to get a new one.
You could get by just oiling the current chain and using it until it breaks and keep the new one as a spare when that happens. If I remember correctly you also have to match the chain to how many speeds your bike has.
