Hey everyone,
I went to my local Cube dealer today to check out the Cube Nuroad C:62 SLX (3,999 €). The rhodonite colorway is basically sold out everywhere, and I really wanted to support a local shop. I also picked out about 400 € worth of JobRad‑eligible equipment. We already calculated everything for the leasing application, finalized it, and even submitted it. All at full price, without any discount.
Since I wanted matching clip‑in shoes (150 €), I politely asked whether there was any chance for a lower price or even for free — especially because I'm paying full price on the bike and the equipment. I know Jobrad takes a few percent…
But the reply was… disappointing:
– “Only” 20% off the shoes because of a spring promotion for equipment…”
– No chance for additional discount at all, and I was told I should understand because 10% goes to JobRad.
– Another comment he made was: “This model is sold out everywhere… we already had two interested buyers — the bike would’ve been long gone if you hadn’t reserved it for two days. You can think about whether you want to cancel the application. We’ll see it in the system.”
The tone and the way this was said really threw me off. I sat in my car afterward just to calm myself down.
He wasn’t rude, but it felt like.. he was being too defensive about the price.
He kept pointing out the costs and the high demand. It honestly felt like he wanted to show me that I need him more than he needs me…
Then he gave me the 20% off the shoes because of the spring promotion.
Wait a moment… 20% off for equipments…? Didn't we already calculated the whole equipment?
I went back in and asked whether this 20% dicsount also applied to the JobRad‑eligible equipment I had already added.
And surprise… it did.
But ONLY because I asked. If I had stayed quiet, I would’ve paid full price. That really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Maybe some people would think:
- “4,400 € isn’t that much…” — well, for me, it is.
- “You should be happy you got any discount at all.” — sure, but there are genuinely good online deals out there, including via JobRad. And of course I don’t expect everything for free.
I do understand that margins are smaller with JobRad, but margins are much higher for equipments. And let’s be honest: giving me the shoes for free would have been a 3.4% overall discount, and in return they would’ve gained a long‑term customer who’d do all workshop visits there and likely buy more stuff in the future.
Now I’m really torn apart.
Originally, I wanted a Canyon. Then I fell in love with the Nuroad C:62 SLX…
Could you maybe help me decide…? 🙁
I’m now stuck between these two bikes:

With JobRad, I would still get 10% off at Canyon…
Thanks a lot for reading and for sharing your thoughts!!! 🙏

I’d still be inclined to keep the Cube. I had a previous version of that bike, with a mechanical group, and never had an issue. I love that colour too, never seen it before. The Canyon, on the other hand is just a bit, meh… it’s probably a good bike, just there is something about Canyon that doesn’t do it for me. Besides their proprietary parts that are a pain to get hold of (I’ve seen friends struggle with this).
In the long term, it’s about the bike you like best. If you already got a good price on it, despite the way the shop dealt with you, I would focus on the bike.
A friend of mine has a shop and I know margins are tight and many people going in asking for discounts because they can get it cheaper online. I sometimes buy components online and bring them in to have them fitted. Anyway, that’s to say that it may be normal for them to get defensive about the price. You also may have had a different experience with a different employee.
If you don’t like them, you needn’t stick with them and can always have your bike serviced elsewhere.
