Hello everyone, I recently acquired this bike from a friend and the chain was tangled, i fixed the tangled chain but now it won't stop derailing and its unusable, can anyone help me orient it correctly
Your rear derailleur is shot. You need a replacement
Edit: to whoever is downvoting here… can you tell me your thoughts on the state of the derailleurs tension spring? I mean I’m confused why the cage would be turned towards the front of the bike instead of the rear if everything was fine with it

afaik chain should be on right of first (top) jockey, like at this photo
Your chain looks too short and is run through the derailleur improperly. Play around and check your high low set screws on the back trailer.

1. Your chain is routed improperly through the rear derailleur.
2. Looks like a mild cleaning and tune up would be a good idea in general
Are you comfortable doing work like this yourself? The Park Tools YouTube channel has great videos on bike maintenance. Worth a look!
If not, your local bike shop can give it a once over for you.

Chain is routed incorrectly around upper pulley. Either fix that yourself of take it to the shop.
I’m also 90 percent sure a properly working rear derailleur won’t allow for a chain to route in the way shown in your pic. So you’ll likely have to replace that.

You are going to need a new cable. Probable housing. And yes your rear derilla is smoked. That’s ok. It’s 12 bucks for a new one. And your front derilla is janked, misaligned and very foul.
