Cycling the Wonders of Wakefield | Drone & POV Ride Through History
Experience the Wonders of Wakefield Cycle Route like you’re right there with us. In this video we combine immersive POV cycling footage with stunning drone views to showcase one of West Yorkshire’s most scenic and historically rich rides.
The route follows sections of former railway lines and historic transport corridors, once used to move coal, goods and passengers across the Wakefield district. Today these old railways have been transformed into peaceful traffic-free paths, winding through woodland, open countryside and quiet villages.
From the saddle you’ll see the trail exactly as riders experience it, while our aerial drone shots reveal the bigger picture — sweeping Yorkshire landscapes, historic railway cuttings, old bridges and the beautiful routes carved through the countryside.
Along the way we highlight some of the hidden history of Wakefield, the legacy of its railway network, and the stunning views that make this ride such a local favourite.

Tried doing the WoW a couple of times but always get lost in an endless loop around the Hepworth centre lol but both times it has just been following signs and not from a map. I think since you filmed this the route has been changed slightly and now takes in Sandal Castle now that new cycle path has been created. It is on my try again list for this year.
You mentioned the Wakefield Wheel I have done this many times and I can't recommend it enough. After all the rain we had at the start of the year Gawthorpe Lane is probably still a mud bath so I haven't done it yet this year.
