Rim brake bikes for road really never should have gone away. Sure disc brakes are great in the wet, but a lot of people never ride in the wet anyway. The constant churn of newer tech just makes everything more expensive. A rim brake bike is perfectly serviceable for a lot of riders. Easier maintenance and simpler components.
