Leaving North Detroit toward Algonac, the road turned into heavy traffic. Trucks, cars, noise. After a while it felt like watching a mind that won’t settle — truck thoughts, car thoughts, bike thoughts, everything rushing through at once.
The road-mind finally exhales. As the pavement meets the river’s edge, the frantic rhythm of the traffic dissolves into the steady flow of the water. The chaos stops being a struggle and starts being a pulse.
In Algonac I reached the ferry port to cross into Canada. Someone on that ferry told me, almost casually, to seize the moment. It stayed with me as the boat moved across the river.
That night I found a campsite, cooked a small meal, and watched the moon rise. While it climbed above the trees, I sang a song about paradoxes and Maurice Sendak.
I pulled a few moments from that ride into this episode.
