Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One was claimed by the developers who made it to be “Historically authentic” and it is often perceived this way by players. This video dispels that view by correcting everyone of the games’ many errors for the sake of education.

    ____ Corrections ____
0:03:56 – Bloomfield, aka Brooklyn, is a Corporal in this mission, which is the lowest NCO rank. Regardless, the binoculars are still seen on him in the North Africa and Sicily levels where he is a private and not acting as a forward observer.
0:32:00 – The MAS 36 does actually eject casings but two of them come out before the bolt is even pulled back which is clearly erroneous. Other rifles like the Springfield M1903A4 and Fucile Mod. 38 appear to not eject any casings.
0:38:34 – I made a small editing mistake here by leaving the voiceover volume too quite. For those who cannot hear, the point was about how the ZF41 scope reticle on the Kar98k has an incorrect design.

    ____ Additional Points ____
1:16:25 – The clip of the Fucile Mod. 38 was designed to be inserted into the magazine along with the cartridges and then fall out of the bottom through a designated hole once all six rounds are chambered. In game the clip detaches from the rounds and falls away before they enter the magazine.
1:19:08 – The Navy Petty Officer we Liaison with in this level is portrayed incorrectly. He should not have the Naval Engineer patch. His helmet also wouldn't have the navy gray stripe and black stencil like what you'd see from Neptune. Instead, his helmet would just be OD green with nothing on it, or he would hand paint "USN" in white letters and an anchor on it to show he's not Army once on land. In addition, his weapon should be an M1 Carbine or Springfield 03 instead of an M1 Garand.
1:31:27 – All StG 44 assault rifles in game are missing the front sight hood.

  2. TBH A-20 Havocs were flown through the 44-45 ETO since the A-26s were not well liked and many units fought hard to keep their Havocs.

  3. Been waiting for this video for a long time! I love the dedication to detail that this channel offers. That said, here's a few potential nitpicks and details that may have been missed or misstated:
9:06 – The 30-06 ammo used in game seems to be modeled on crimped blank rounds, rather than real M2 Ball 30-06 rounds
32:00 – The shells on the MAS36 do seem to eject, and can be seen for a split second when the bolt is pulled to the real, on the very bottom right side of the screen

  4. Someone needs to start a decompilation effort for this game so that mods can be made to overhaul the historical inaccuracies. Also, is Medal of Honor Frontline or Rising Sun around the corner soon?

  5. Frosty! I'm a fan of your video and here's my HUGE request, make a video about "Easy Red 2" its an indie game made by indie indian developers and the game is a hidden gem and underrated! It is also historically accurate than any COD or Battlefield about WW2, it also has many campaigns from Africa, D Day, Stalingrad, Pacific and most of all, Chinese Front! I highly recommend it and its a great game that also has active community that you can feedback about the problems. Thank you love your vid!

  6. One more inaccuracy possibly missed: at 1:16:30 En-bloc clip falls out of the Carcano carbine during reload. Shouldn't it stay in the gun with the rounds and only fall out through the bottom when empty??

  7. Smitty knows how to fix the artillery gun because he was an artillery mechanic as a pre-War soldier. This is stated in his bio. How he knows how to fix German guns, however, is anyone's guess.

  8. Thanks for finally doing the Game that not only got me introduce me to the Call Of Duty Series but also got me hooked on WWII games. Still have my Gamecube copy and I still play it every now and then when I feel like re-living my childhood. Well Done Frosty

  9. I wish Big Red One would be remastered, or at least made backwards compatible. I have so many memories of playing this campaign hundreds of times with my cousin on his Xbox.

I just want to experience it again

  10. I would love to see easy red 2 covered it would likely be a multi part series due to the amount of campaigns and missions 😊

  11. Yeah but notheless, this game was the reason why, i now know a hell lot more about WW2 than i did before i played, like the stukas sirens…this game was the main reason.

  12. 1:24:45 Devil's advocate; I always figured the devs did this just to be more unique instead of doing the same rehashed Saving Private Ryan-esque D-Day landing sequence every WW2 game has done before and since. Even if it's historically inaccurate, it's highlighting a different form of beach landing ship other than always being higgins boats.
To be honest, I only learned of the LCI specifically because it was featured in Big Red One.

  13. I think many of these inaccuracies may be chalked off as constraints on disc space at the time for consoles, a lack of adequate encyclopedic resources (there was a wealth of knowledge in the early 2000s but this hyper-online fascination with minutia was not popularized until somewhat recently, the past ten years) and the constraints of a schedule (the team couldn't model all these particulars and had to go with those things that looked most suitable). I will add that this game almost directly follows some of the beats from the Lee Marvin film Big Red One, which is pretty historically inaccurate too.

Regardless, the general thematic and atmospheric elements of this game were correct. It is a far more plausible depiction of the war through American eyes (albeit ones that are not nearly questioning or pessimistic enough about the war in Europe and why they are fighting it) than we get today, for the most part, and it was a credible entry back in the early 2000s. It never disrespected the conflict, or the men involved, through its inaccuracies. Unlike say, COD Vanguard or WWII or similar.

  14. Updated List for Historical Inaccuracies:
Call of Duty: Finest Hour (PS2)
Call of Duty: Roads to Victory (PSP)
Call of Duty: Blacks Ops – Declassified (PSVita)
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC)
    Medal of Honor (PS1)
    Medal of Honor: Underground (PS1)
    Medal of Honor: Frontline (PS2)
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun (PS2)
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault (PC)
Medal of Honor: European Assault (PS2)
    Medal of Honor: Vanguard (PS2)
Medal of Honor: Airborne (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
