A Life In Tandem tells the true story of Luke Grenfell-Shaw, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer aged 24. Given months to live and leaving further tragedy behind, he sets off to live his final dream: cycling across the world on a tandem.
Across continents, brutal conditions and thousands of miles, the journey becomes both an extraordinary adventure and a chance to rebuild his relationship with his mum.

  2. To fit so much life in, never mind to an 1hr 35, is no small feat. But you never shy from a challenge! Incredible job Luke – such a beautiful, well told film. Will absolutely be telling everyone I know to watch it, with a trigger warning that it may prompt adventure x

  3. Top class Luke, a truly inspiring story of mental fortitude in the face of extreme adversity. Some of the people you met along the way were such legends as well, all battling their own adversity to choosing to live positively. I enjoyed all the footage of you head bobbing on the bike, reminded me of the DUCC days! Hope you're doing well now and hope to see you at a trail race at some point in the future!

  4. Ok Luke, lets cut to the chase! You and your mum are so alike, neither of you is prepared to ceed ground, and as a consequence it’s inevitable you will clash. Emotional intelligence is a learnt behaviour. Maybe seek out a workshop and change your relationship for the better forever. How do I know these things, because we have a lot of life’s journey in common, albeit mine much later in life

  5. I’m so glad this was suggested to me. I watched it all start to finish. That journey is legendary. A trip like that is something so many people only dream of doing. But you did it. A true gentleman.

  6. Chapeau, watched it from start to end being blown away by the challenges on mental, physical, emotional way you overcame in such a personal fassion. Loved to have seen it, thank you you are an inspiration! Carry on living your dreams, follow your senses and live.

  7. Will be 1 million views by next week. Luke. I am also a canliver and a life long bicycle tour enthusiast. I live on a small island next to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Drop by, on your next bicycle tour! we can ride together! I will show you some good spots around here. I would like to return a bit of the inspiration you created in me with this video…….

  8. Luke, it’s so inspiring and moving. Congratulations on this beautiful film and on all the battles you’ve faced. It really makes me reflect and put things into perspective.

  9. Wow .. as a blood cancer survivor I’m in awe of you. Bravo. May we each live each precious day filled with wonder, gratitude and love. Here’s to you mate 🌈🌈

  10. Both your mum and your dad are very intellectual cold fish. That doesnt mean they dont have heart – it means they protect their emotions with their mind. You are transcending that – at least with your mother – and showing her how to find her heart. Brilliant video. If you are able to, I wish you a long and happy life.

  11. My wife and I have just finished watching this on the TV, I’d be lying if I didn’t tear up multiple times. Both of us were so touched by your story and the Incredible journey you undertook . Thank you for sharing this with us.

  12. Such amazing and humane document. "How to live with cancer."" 5.5 years ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer with metastases in my lungs. Now, the cancer has visited also my brains, but I survived. There are indeed many tumors in my lungs and for now the situation is somehow under control. But every day, I do something in sports.. like squat. 2 months ago I made a record of 517 squats in a bit more than half an hour. Body movement creates a natural "immune therapy" and helps you to keep rollin'.

  13. So much to process here😵‍💫. Just the sheer honesty of your journey has profoundly moved me. Our lives are so precious . I’m going to follow your ever unfolding story. Much love is sent to you and yours🥰👋✅🇨🇦

  14. I was thinking all along what a strong mom/parents you have, to be able to let you go, knowing what happened to your brother (even if you hadn´t had cancer, a journey like yours can be dangerous) and knowing she might not see you that much again. And you are insanely brave and strong! This is so inspiring!!!
