A murky, damp morning in Crowborough sets the tone for a challenging final leg of the trip. Between the persistent mist and a significant flare-up of sciatica and hip pain, I’ve made the decision to skip the Lancing campsite and head straight home to Bognor Regis. It’s a 50-mile push to get everything dry and settled before my next hospital scan.
Today’s Highlights
The Murky Start: Woke up in Crowborough to a thick mist that forced me to break out the lights and the waterproofs early on.
Bacon Roll Ritual: Stopped at the familiar burger van on the A27 near Lewes for a much-needed bacon roll—a small victory in a damp morning!
Brighton Battle: Navigating Brighton is always a mix of iconic views and frustrating roadworks. The sciatica really started to bite as I hit the busy city streets.
Decision at the Seafront: Standing on the Brighton seafront, I weighed up the 15-mile detour to Lancing against the 30-mile push for home. With a wet tent and a “rattling” hip, home won out.
Shower Shenanigans: A quick recall of a recent “soap disaster” at Waltham Abbey—dropping a bar of soap and having to retrieve it from two cubicles away using a crutch!

I’m Garry McGivern (Travelsonabike2), and I’ve been travelling the world by bike since 2008. Solo self-supported bicycle touring on my trusty bike, Passepartout. My vlogs are unscripted, down-to-earth and honest—sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between of a long-distance cyclist. I’ve now cycled more than 60,000 miles around the world 🌏 and I’m still going.
My video 📹 blogs complement my written blogs, which I publish daily on my website, https://www.garrymcgivern.com/, each time I head off on a bicycle tour. Bear in mind when watching. The video 📹 is unscripted and recorded as I cycle along 🚲, and might not be of the highest quality. The footage is then cobbled together when I get home. It’s certainly no Hollywood 🎬 production. But it might just make you smile and inspire you to get on your bike and head off on your own bicycle tour.

DCM & Health Journey: Today was a stark reminder of the physical toll of DCM. The sciatica was so intense that even the Tramadol struggled to keep the pain at bay. I’ve reached that point where the bumps in the road are no longer just an annoyance—they’re a real hurdle. Heading home a day early allows my hip to settle before my upcoming morning scan.

Those ppl living in California, or costa del sol etc dont realise how lucky they are bring able to ride in near constant sun!. We get the murky weather, kind of get used to it tho!😎
From one sciatica sufferer to another, well done sir. I've taken Oramorph in the past but my doctor is very reluctant to prescribe it again , enjoying your video's.
It's hard to believe you do all that on a juggernaut bicycle.
