(Picture in Tottori, Japan from last year's trip)

So as part of my family structure, I take a week (7-10 days) off by myself each year away from my partner and kiddo, and have spent this touring almost every time out of the last 6 years.

I'm now turning 40, and my doctor says I'll new knees at some point.

I've toured Japan four times now, totalling ~15 weeks (two bigger trips before becoming a parent). I'm finding it hard to want to tour anywhere else, however. I've been encouraged to try other places, but it feels like it checks all my boxes for touring, and there's still so much to see.

I've planned out about 5 week-long tours in Europe, and the one I'm leaning into is through eastern Austria. I'm not finding much excitement for it though.

Feeling like I might get another ten trips like this before my knees give out, I'm torn on whether to keep touring different areas of Japan every year, or go other places because other folks who have traveled more think I should see different places.

What would you do? Anyone toured Japan and other counties and would recommend the other place over Japan?
