I‘ve seen a move in the outdoor industry to get away from PFAS finishes for waterproofing, and it’s all over gear labels if a company doesn’t use them, but I never really knew what it was about. Well, it‘s really, really bad. I watched this video where, among other things (testing remote water, tap water, and his own blood), this guy tested an Arcteryx GoreTex jacket with a PFAS DWR treatment that GoreTex claimed was “stable” and wouldn’t contaminate the wearer or water that touches it, and it did in relatively large quantities. I have at least three pieces of gear with PFAS DWR that are worn out and have been shedding forever chemicals into the environment and probably my body for years. This is our generations leaded gasoline, basically.
This is 100% worth your time and attention. Give it a look. Link to the video “Your gear is poisoning you”
