Fwiw, the bike rack isn’t compliant with Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals guidelines.

Is it only locked by the front wheel? I would totally move that bikes big butt for a parking spot.

  3. PSA: its ok to move other peoples bikes if theyre being dickheads (and the locks allow)

I’d probably lock it with my lock and just take my bike with me

Yes, James May’s been living in my head rent free for this exact occasion.

Whenever I see this, even if it’s just a bike with excessively wide handlebars that occupies multiple bike racks, I think of the Canyonero song from the Simpsons. Particularly [this part](https://youtu.be/PI_Jl5WFQkA?si=7yEfuWssm8R5e43n&t=45), which alludes to it being two lanes wide. Many e-bikes seem to me like the Canyonero of bikes.

  6. The real PSA is that those “wheel bender” bike racks are inferior to staple, spiral or coat hanger racks.

“Oh, you wanted to lock more than your front wheel with a u-lock? Don’t make me laugh!”
    -The Wheel Bender

On further inspection, the two folks using the cable lock for the e-bikes are going to have their home insurance premiums go up.

You can’t lock to this kind of rack without orienting like this (unless you lock to the ends, which other people already did) so I sort of forgive him.

Frame triangle to rack is the only acceptable way to lock a bike worth more than $200. If the rack doesn’t allow more than 3 bikes to do that, it’s the rack’s problem.

  9. Hey OP, how would you suggest this person lock their bike up to this terrible rack?

If the ends were already occupied when they got there, this is literally the only way to lock a bike like that securely to a rack like this.

Let’s blame bad and inadequate infrastructure instead of each other, yes?

As a cargo bike guy, I would probably lock to the fence. BUT…

Is it locked other than the front wheel with the cable? If so, swing it.

Other that, without knowing who got there first, i would try to lock to the ends. If the ends were already taken, as shown in the image, this is realistically their only choice with 20″ wheels

Every one of those bikes is very nice. What bike utopia is this? But yeah the bike rack is not up to the job, we need to rethink bike parking

  12. Yeah I just today had to make a choice leaving my bike in a spot I didn’t feel comfortable with and I told myself, you can’t live in fear and just locked the front wheel and went in the store. My watch suddenly alerted me that my phone was disconnected and I realized I left it on the handlebar mount, lit up playing music to my OpenFits and open for anyone to grab. I was in line to pay and couldn’t really run off so I paid, entered the wrong pin and had to run my card again, then walked outside to find my bike same and sound.
