My teenage son is building his first real road bike on somewhat of a budget.

We have sanded and polished the carbon frame and I was wondering what an appropriate way of protecting it would be.

Could we just wax it or do I need to add some kind of 2k clear coat?

He just picked up a set of Zipp carbon cranks and BB off the Bay for around $100 as well so I think he'll be all in for under $400 when everything is all said and done.

It's nice seeing him excited about something and getting out of the house.

Thanks for any advice.

Keep an eye on the joins!

For protecting the carbon you can use 303 Aerospace Protectorant (or equivalent)

  2. All about the joints on something like this. Aging bonded lugs can last for a long time, or fail at the worst time.
