I recently ordered a Grizl CF 7 ESC for $3,469.00 CAD. I just got this message from UPS. I was under the impression that bicycles from Europe to Canada are exempt from duty? I’m in Alberta so no HST/ PST. Has anyone successfully fought to have their duty removed? Will I need to refuse the package and go to their airport? Any advice appreciated. Thanks. 20% duty is crazy.

This is not duty, this is taxes
Are you sure that’s not just the HST plus UPS’ broker fee? I paid a similar amount for my Endurace but it was only HST and no import duty. Canyon doesn’t collect HST on purchases so it’s due on import.
When I got my bike last year, while checking out on canyons website it estimated the import fees/taxes. The fees ups charged were basically identical.
