This is a thing cannondale does on some of their bikes, I believe they call it the lightning axle system? The axle itself should have a thinner section that allows you to drop the wheel out of the bike without fully removing the axle from the hub, kinda silly imo, but not broken or anything

These are Mavic Speed Release dropouts – the through axle has a step in it so that when you unscrew the axle enough to release from the threaded side the wheel can drop out without having to fully remove the through axle. Makes wheel changes quicker
