This ride out to Shropshire to ride around the Wrekin was going so well before my bike decided to break and then it was a battle to get home. Cutting short what was being a great 100 mile bike ride training towards 24 hours on Hardknott Pass.

Great video mate nice to see my local roads on YouTube it will be a much better ride when it's dry sorry about your mechanical issues at least you were not in the middle of nowhere, you don't want that to happen on the Fred Whitton😮 cheers mate 👍
Another memorable ride!
Derby is the birthplace of the IR. Cromford Mill. The Silk Mill.
Character building! You are just like myself, a nervous descender. A great video for February, it is a bit grim but spring is around the corner.
Time for a winter training bike maybe? Lots of good used bikes out there cheap that'd do the job. Or relegate the Boardman to winter use & get something fancier?
Good ride Andrew. Takes some grit to do those kinds of distances in our winter.
The first time I rode to Wales from the midlands (Tamworth-ish) my phone ended up taking me up the Wrekin twice., and tried to send me up there a third time – I ended up just getting on the A5 and ignoring the route until I got near Shrewsbury. I really understood the old "right round the Wrekin" saying that day! Eventually I realised that the compass on the phone was faulty – which I should have noticed when it got me lost in the maze of Walsall, Aldridge and Wolverhampton. I skipped that on the way back and went the Cannock/Brownhills way – was way faster, and I wished I'd done that on the way out and avoided all that urban stuff. Live and learn!
I prefer the orange beta fuel gels, the raspberry ones taste like calpol to me! I like the beta fuel gels as being 40g carbs each you need to carry fewer of them than 20-25g carb gels. Fewer wrappers to dispose of too
Blimey, that freehub. Any mechanical issues here in Pembrokeshire and surrounding counties it’s phone a friend or, flag down a farmer and get a lift. Have fun at the Unversity. I Worked there in Sport and Fitness. Loved it.
Ahh, that’s some bad luck, enjoying the videos though. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyable film. Soon as you said it I thought – freehub! It's happened to me once or twice. In fairness, as you point out it had taken a lot of punishment. Well done and keep 'em coming.
cycled up jiggers a couple of hours ago 🙂
Lol I've made the error of letting Satnav take me on a bike -specific route and it took me up every single muddy lane and steep hill possible! (Nelson S Wales to Brecon)
I came back on the normal car route.
Just getting bck into cycling ater not riding since 2010. Yesterday my free wheel hub desided to free wheel in both directions. Had a nice 8 mile walk home with that one. Well i say walk i did the downhill bits on the bike. On the flats and up hill i was walking. Best of all today i took my 26 inch mountain bike wheel in and we don't do parts for those wheels any more. All well. Got my bits on ebay today so i'm now waiting for delivery untill i can ride again. Unless i start riding my time trail bike. Although i sat on that and wondered how the hell i road a bike in that position? Maybe i'll wait for my new free wheel hub.
Wow you biked far 😮
Well done good content
After that one hopefully not up another climb on two feet ⚙️!
At 5.39 if you turn left and go up Darby Road to Sunniside and Little Wenlock, it’s a better climb and will drop you down nicely to the Wrekin
