The FIM Monaco 1953 challenge is officially in the books, but the road doesn’t end. I’m continuing the Crossing Europe journey, and today’s 391 km leg from Bessole d’Issòle to Narbonne reminded me exactly why I do this—and why I’m a little bit crazy.
I kept things off the highways and stayed clear of the big cities, but the “peaceful” backroads had a few surprises waiting in the Rhone Delta.
The Highlights (and Low Points):
📍 The Caffeine Mistake: Pro-tip: drinking coffee to stay warm is a rookie move. It didn’t stop the cold, it just gave me the jitters while I was trying to hold a steady line. ☕️🚫
📍 Detour on the Mountain: I managed to get myself properly lost on the Mountain of Sète. Stunning? Yes. Helpful for the schedule? Not at all.
📍 The Coastal Grind: Navigating the coast was a test of patience with the tourist crowds, followed by a frantic search for petrol as my tank hit “empty” in the middle of nowhere.
📍 The Narbonne Gale: The final stretch was a physical fight. The wind near Narbonne got so aggressive I was leaning the bike over just to go straight.
Crossing Europe 2025, Day 43 -391 km of pure solo riding. No backup, no highways, just the road.
