I’m completely new to mountain biking and definitely want to jump right in.
I live in south TX so we don’t have any crazy trails but I would definitely enjoy high jumps on trails. Dont really care for technical rocky terrain. I would like to keep this bike for at least 2 years before I upgrade to anything else.

My budget I wanted to stay was $400 USD however now I’m seeing options at $500. I really don’t want to spend more than $500, and would feel better staying in the 4s. However I am seeing that this sport is pretty expensive.

I have done a lot of research on budget bikes but have consistently been pointed in the direction of a Grand Canyon 5 or the Ozark Trail Ridge 29′ from Walmart

Currently there are two options of the Grand Canyon 5. one is [Orange](https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-5/3267.html?dwvar_3267_pv_rahmenfarbe=OG&dwvar_3267_pv_rahmengroesse=XL) and the other is [Blue](https://www.canyon.com/en-us/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-5/2613.html?dwvar_2613_pv_rahmenfarbe=BU%2FBK). I do not know enough about mountain bikes to know the differences or if its actually worth $200 or if I’d be better just buying the upgrades through amazon and putting them on by a shop.

I’ve also seen many videos of the Ozark Trail being upgraded to be better than many other hardtails around that range for cheaper.

Also note that I am completely open to other bike suggestions if anyone knows any.

What’s the play? [Link to Ozark Trail for quick reference](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-29-Ridge-Mountain-Bike-Medium-Frame-Gray-Adult-Unisex/1091217224)
