Hello,
I recently acquired an AMP Research B4. I had never heard of the bike until then. The previous owner took care of it, though they could not ride it due to various reasons. Any parts that failed or were in bad shape have been replaced with modern anodized parts.
Would this be something worth keeping or selling?

  1. I’ve been riding for over 25 years and that bike was several years old when I started. Keep it as a collectors item or sell it to someone that collects vintage bikes and would enjoy it. That’s a great looking bike bike that looks very well kept.

  2. that was a significant bike in the history of mountain bikes, maybe a bit more the predecessor model, but this one too. The Horst Link rear suspension design was pioneered (and patented…) by AMP. That said, it’s obsolete and probably somewhat fragile.

If you’re not attached to it, you could probably sell it to a collector quite easily. That one seems to have a hodgepodge of parts on it now but it’s still cool.

  3. That was my main MTB from 1997-2007. Great bike but the shock and fork kept blowing seals and I had to frequently send them back to AMP Research in California. I just recently donated it to a charity that refurbishes bikes for kids/teens. Some kid will be riding an MTB icon and will have no idea!

  4. Wow you just unlocked a wave of memories from my teen years lol. That’s a collector’s item for sure! I’m sure you could find some interested buyers.

If it’s worth keeping is hard for us to answer.. it depends on what your interest in the bike is. If you just wanted to buy a bike to get around on or mountain bike with and this bike has no admirational or nostalgic value to you I would say sell it because it deserves to be well cared for and maintained in prime condition by someone that values it in that way. If you do value it in that way but also want to ride it I think that’s fine just please take good care of it. Or you can keep it as wall art or whatever and it will likely accumulate some value over the years (although I don’t think you’ll ever get anything crazy for it).
