Hey there,
I wanted to share the solution I came up with for mounting a light while using a handlebar bag. While researching, I found three common approaches, but none of them really convinced me:
- Fork mount (lower eyelet): Mounted with a single screw at the bottom fork fixture, essentially imitating a handlebar. The position is quite low, and the single-bolt setup didn’t feel very stable. Mounting the light upside down would lower it even further
- Fork crown mount: Again, only one screw. I wasn’t comfortable with the load being supported by a single bolt, especially with a carbon fork. It was also difficult—if not impossible—to find an arm long enough for my light
- Handlebar extender above the bag: Technically works, but it increases the overall bulk of the cockpit, which I wanted to avoid
I mounted the light directly to the handlebar horns. This keeps the light relatively high, secures it with a fully bolted connection, doesn’t interfere when not in use, and turned out to be a cost-effective option.
Parts:
- Fixture inside horns: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005008848248431.html?spm=a2g0n.order_detail.order_detail_item.2.4e066368QrCOCw&gatewayAdapt=glo2deu
- Garmin type Connector to light ( not necessary but as I usually fix my light below my console with a Garmin mount I still wanted to use this) https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005007455975177.html?spm=a2g0n.order_detail.order_detail_item.2.7fe16368R4wBKZ&gatewayAdapt=glo2deu
- 2 x M5 screws and 2 bolts
-
Some metal drill
-
Worked great for me, light is fixed and let's itself be removed with one twist. Out of the way and doesn't bother me even with a bag
