I am changing the cables for my derailleurs and noticed my rear mech might be sitting in a strange position? The chain is rubbing on itself. Is this normal? I can’t seem to find any information about it online, forgive me if it’s painfully obvious. Thank you in advance!

It’s not normal for the chain to rub against itself. My first step with derailleur issues is to review the park tools rear derailleur set up video on youtube, it’ll take you all through indexing and setting the limits correctly.
Thag chain is 2/3 links too long. Most likely if its old you will replace and chain and cassette at the same time.
