This bike came out when I was 5 years old so I never rode anything like this growing up. Plus I couldn’t afford a Specialized back then. We all rode Huffy 3×7 steel MTBs that were bought in department stores. I had no idea how to use all those speeds! We all pretty much just rode them as single speeds. I remember the feeling of freedom cruising the neighborhood and forest preserve trails with friends. When I ride this bike I tap into that type of fun. There’s also something nice about a bike that rides really well without being precious at all. You can just try things and not worry about anything. I’m not really afraid about locking this bike up outside. I don’t sweat the l sound of the chain, or the chirpy squeak of the derailleur or the slight rumble in the bottom bracket. It’s all good.
