i was looking at how to integrate machu picchu into my south america trip. I thought it would be a shame to not see/be in the jungle at least once while in SA, and maybe approach machu picchu from the north. Now i found out that that large valley you cross from ayacucho to the east, called VRAEM, has some history of terrorism and cartel activity. Everything im finding online in regards to that region seems rather out of date, so i thought i'd ask around. Is this a completely insane idea, and would i die?
I'm mostly daydreamin here to be honest, so dont take this too seriously. im just trying to get a feel for this region. 🙂
