What do you have on hand?

    – Methylated spirits
    – Terps
    – Nail polish remover
    – Sticker removal fluid
    – Other solvent?

Remember the better it works, the worse it is for you. Wear gloves, well ventilated or a respirator.

Take the bigger pieces off first with a piece of plastic the use something like Goo Gone or isopropyl alcohol for the residue

Iso Alcohol might work, if it doesn’t spray with goo gone with paper towel wrapped around the bars and leave it for awhile before scraping. Old gift cards make good scrapers

  4. Elbow grease can help but your best bet is to just endure the tedious picking off and invest in better handlebar tape next time

Obviously not useful now but I’ve always had the most success with a hair dyer/heat gun during initial removal.

Give everything a generous once over to get it all warm and then hold the heat gun over the part you’re actively pulling off as you work up the bars.

You can also wrap the entirety of the bar in electrical tape (do this when you’d usually just be securing the cables). Bar tape often comes off cleaner from the smooth electrical tape than it does from the textured bar.

Plus if it fucks up you can just remove ALL the electrical tape which pretty much never leaves residue (as long as it’s proper 3M stuff), rather than having to pick all of those individual bits off.

  6. Toss it and buy a whole new bike.

Or warm it a bit (not to much) using hot water. That will help with peeling off the large chuckings, then you can scrub with mild dish soap, warm water and one of those sponges with the non scratch brillo pad on one side.

Once cleaned, allow to air dry then reinstall.

Whatever you use, it’s always a massive pain in the ass. I’ve used acetone and isopropyl alcohol and they worked comparably badly… But better than nothing.
