I bought a £700 second hand Trek Domane and upgraded it to see how good it could really get.
The final total came in just under £900… but was it actually worth it?

  1. Surely, there's another 250+ grams to saved with a carbon crank set. I have just had delivered a Leese crank from Ali with a Ti 24mm axle (measures 23.99mm, the same as the R7100 it is replacing) for £153 delivered. Leese use the Easton standard and they have 1-piece chainrings at c.180g, which will bring the complete crank to c.530 grams.

  2. Btw Trek sell the tubeless insert for the wheels, they’re a thick flexible plastic belt that fits into the wheel, so you don’t need tape. This made things so much simpler for me, after I tried and failed multiple times with the same wheels trying to get tubeless setup.

  3. I fitted a Goldix ultralight crankset which uses a 24mm aluminium axle and so far so good admittedly it done less than 700kms, but it does get cranked up some fairly steep stuff! I think your riro crank will be fine! I say Throw it on 👍🏻
