There was a heated debate during Glasgow 2023 World Championships road races as to which climb of the circuit was the steepest… which was a bit silly IMHO.
There were two ways to determine that. First, you could look at the sign at the bottom of the climb to see the gradient. You could also get on a bike (when it was allowed) and do the climbs yourself.
I did both.
Either way, Montrose Street is not as bad as they said on TV!
Having said that – I have tons of respect and admiration for the competitors who took them all several times during one race, at speeds I could only dream of ever achieving on a bike!
