We roll down the driveway, tyres whispering over cool asphalt, and aim our bikes vaguely in the direction of Croatia. Not a destination, more of a suggestion.

Day one drifts along quiet canals, slow water and birds clearing their throats for the morning. Borders pass almost unnoticed — only the cycling signs bother to change colour.

We stop on a magical bench where strangers turn into storytellers, obediently follow hand-painted arrows into what turns out to be a small earthly paradise, and eat lunch so fresh it clearly remembers the garden it came from.

A gravel path adds drama: burning legs, heavy breathing, brief existential doubt. Until there’s a plot twist…

We finish the day through forests, past cathedrals and live music, and finally land on a terrace with cold beer and very satisfied legs.

Eighty kilometres done. Croatia still far away. Perfect.

  1. 1:44 I wondered if your mother-in-law was a highly dangerous person since she is kept separate and behind bars – Hannah-Bull Lecture? 😁😉😜

Lovely video – though the Graves Disease sounds horrible! Quite scary but pleased it was a mechanical issue!

  2. Looks like another great adventure begins. Thanks for posting your route, and for bringing us along – you always seem to find the most interesting roads / paths to take. You seem to be managing your Graves very well, all the best to you both.
