With earthquake swarms, volcanic eruptions, and lava fountains that spew fifty to a hundred metres into the air, this tiny country is experiencing volcanic activity on a staggering scale. But the engineers of Iceland are fighting back…

  1. did you let an AI make this for you? A lot of the text and im'two continents tearing apart'ages don't make any sense together. Why are there iron filings when talking about (incorrectly)

  2. Late 2019 when they locked the world down cause of Covid. So thousands of less plains car truck, vehicles in general that use oil. Less oil being pumped more volcanic activity.

  3. With volcanic activity world wide, would it be beneficial or possibe to drill holes in order to relieve the pressure. Preventing catastrophic eruptions, perhaps a controlled spill way out to un populated areas/ocean.

  4. 02:31 shows map where Iceland looks bigger than England, but at 03.51 says that Iceland is smaller than England. It is true, but your visuals need to reflect that. Choose a better map next time.

  5. Just like to say for the citizenssof Iceland, do be cautious and stay safe. Lava flows no doubt is a thing of beauty but it doesn't care about anybody? It just flows and destroys eveything in its path

  6. You asked so here it is, Fagra-dals-fjall, a compound name. Directly translated using cognate words in English Fair-dale-fell. So the easiest way to pronounce it is to pull the compounds apart into its constituents and remember that Icelandic always stresses the first vowel of each word. Fa(g)ra-Dal’s-fyattl (the ttl as in little or in tittle…. Faire-dale’s mountain. 😊

  7. For those wondering why he called iceland and the 2 parts of the atlantic continents, i assume he's using the geologist definition of continent. Where each plate is a continent, land or not.

Continent doesn't have a real definition by itself, so multiple scientific specialties have different definitions.

It's like how there is no such thing as "trees". They evolved from many groups, have differing anatomy, etc.

  8. Will my only first hand volcanic experience has been on the island of Hawaii. That's Pāhoehoe type lava. I can see how the scientists can predict flow and also how they can redirect it. I can see the possibilities.
ʻAʻā is just something else! It's far less influenced genealogical structures and I really don't see how they can redirect it. I'm pretty sure a lot of that is Influenced from childhood memories of seeing Iceland fighting lava flows with flooding seawater upon it.

    Crazy fascinating though!!!🥰🥰🥰

  9. Recently back after a six month trip. I was living at Strandakirkja. I spent one morning at the eruption site; just me and a vulcanologist from the Lava Show. A magical experience.

  10. Is that a good idea. Trying to control tectonic changes? We barely understand weather patterns. How are we going to know the impact this will have?

  11. Iceland is a great place to visit. Be aware. I stop at Costco in Iceland for fuel. The pump won't take my card. It turn out their employee installed a skimmer at the pump. Costco will not take responsibility of it. PS: Costco Iceland is NOT Kirkland. Is a separate company.

  12. It depends on wether if the volcanism becomes gaseous and explosive. Basalt eruptions are managable. Hunga Tunga sized eruption would be like a nuke going off

  13. In anime, we have "Fire Force." What does everyone think we should nickname these real-life brave folks? Lava Force or Magma Force? Give me your vote (or a better name) in the responses 👇
