Had a leaky valve in my tubeless set up, so decided to give it an overhaul. Replaced the tape, valve and tyre. Valve still leaks.

New install so no sealant added yet. Reluctant to add sealant unless I’m 90% sure it’ll fix the issue, due to the mess involved if I need to take the tyre off again. I have another schrader valve and a new set of Prestas.

You think sealant will fix it or is there a larger problem at play?

  1. I would pump the tire up to 10-20 PSI and see whether it holds air for a reasonable time. The air may be entering through the spoke holes and escaping through the valve when placed underwater but the tire itself may be air tight.

  2. Is that a Shrader rim or did you drill it out?

I don’t think sealant will fix that, if it does it will make a mess of your valve.

Possibly a bad set of Shrader valves? Can you pull the core on them?

It was a Schrader rim. Had Schrader valve’d tubes in it when I bought it. But it’s had Presta tubeless valves in it for the last four years. Put Schraders in it this time.
