The famous boardwalk in Nice, France, is the Promenade des Anglais, a 7-kilometer (4.3-mile) seafront walkway known for its iconic blue chairs, palm trees, and stunning Mediterranean views, popular for strolling, jogging, cycling, and people-watching, with beachfront restaurants and activities. Locals call it “La Prom,” and it’s a central part of Nice’s life, connecting the airport to the Old Town and hosting events like the Carnival’s Flower Battles.
The name Promenade des Anglais (Walkway of the English) comes from the English aristocrats who came to Nice in the 18th century to enjoy the health benefits of the local climate. At that time, the shoreline was not so regular, and because the lords and their wives wanted to walk comfortably, a seaside promenade was built.
