Oh my, they got incredibly lucky with that crash. Pretty brutal but hopefully they recover well
This sport gets worse by the year…
Happy Patrick enjoying his sand races:)
I cant watch this… could have easily died. Multiple deaths.
Worst thing about these crashes it is that they happen in moments of the race that are irrelevant, like there was no rush in being in a good position or chance of creating a gap on such a descent with a 5% climb coming up… So a descent like that should not even be on the parcourse… it is no spectacle, not important to the race, just a danger for the riders.
I know you care about pronounciations so here you go: it's not You-lálio, it's Ehooh-lálio (like the sounds eh and ooh but together)
seeing Jan's breakaway – I was like wtf
Air bags on corners, or riders should pull out the race. Easily could of broken his neck or back at that speed.
I'll be honest this shit is driving me away from the sport. I'm less and less willing to accept that i might just see someone die once a year in my pasttime.
Cycling can be scary AF. Maybe get a speed limit, UCI has had worst ideas…
Anyone else 'feel it'..
Bad start year for UAE😢😢😢
Flying out of the desert is going to be a thing! 😶
🤮That road rash on his butt-cheek made me rethink cycling…
Those stages are to dangerous
I'm surprised more riders don't wear kevlar reinforced lycra, like Q36.5's Gridskin. Expensive, but for pro guys probably worth it given the speed / risk involved.
Some sort of equipment failure? Otherwise, how does this happen? Some huge wind gust? These sandbox races are a joke anyway IMHO.
It's beyond me that teams will send their riders to these shitty races in January to ruin their season when they could be training. It's f-ing January FFS.
What was the reason of the crash?
That's 105km/hr 😢
Why racing in a desert, with no one to look, and you'll never see any woman at all. Anyway, sorry for these guys!
It is a bad idea to include descents in a parcours, when you know, as a parcours builder, in advance there is sand on the road everywhere. If not possible to circumvent, then neutralise temporarily. This is not spoiling the race or being overly cautious, but simply a progressive, modern and sane thing to do. Buy, yeah, money.
road rash is not the concern..Its the peripheral neuropathy which becomes the main issue.
Don’t think that level of nudity is allowed in Saudi
I hate watching downhill racing because I'm afraid this is going to happen. In closed road races, this is how cyclists get killed (outside of closed road races, cars are the biggest killer, but separate topic). There could be mechanical speed limiters built onto the bikes. That would prevent deaths and injuries.
At least 40cm bars and 65mm rims made them go 0.8kph slower. 👍🏻
Horrendous crash. They are all super lucky to be still walking away.
This tour is completely nuts.
No one to watch it, terrible climate, just the thing I hate the most about road cycling: how much the money controls the direction the sport takes. I mean, WHY? Why have descents that steep with riders a couple meters away, at most, from each other?
Prespective, put on you swinning trunks and jump out the back of a car going 100 on the highway. thats whats its like, insane. just horrible really.
I don't want to see no more of these pathetic poor buggers … I am sick of these pictures. Maybe someone who goes 100 km/h and is most likely to hit the ground needs more protection than a thin lycra.
That was fuckin brutal. Pro cycling is not for the weak at heart.
