Had this bike for about 2 months now and works perfectly fine up until now but lately been having issues with the chain getting stuck like this. I pedal backwards and then goes back to normal but I want to fix the issue and see if I can fix this at home or need to go to a shop. I’ve never worked on a bike before so any and all advice is helpful

does this happen all the time, or just when in certain gears? it looks like you may be crosschaining.

I would take it to your LBS (local bike shop) – as well as helping you sort the chain out, you’ll likely be able to get to know them a bit and be more confident both asking them for help (and maybe getting help with minimal cost) and in fixing things yourself. Are you able to get it to a shop?
Otherwise, follow the advice here and also focus on keeping things clean to start with – nobody likes trying to sort out a dirty chain – and this will help keep things working more smoothly.
Cross chaining small to small and maybe chain too long?
Set the gears big to big (opposite of this pic) and the tensioner should be maxed out. If not, shorten the chain
If cleaning the chain doesn’t prove to be much of a fix, it might be time to get a new chain. A stretched out chain will not shift properly.
Adjust the “high” limit screw so that the chain can’t fall off the outside of the big ring. The cage needs to be closer to the big ring. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNG7g83lI-s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNG7g83lI-s)
Check the teeth on your chainring for bent teeth, and the chain for bent links.
How did you get the beans above the frank?
