For the past 30 days, I’ve been riding my e-bike fully road legal in the UK — insured, registered, MOT’d and compliant with the law. And honestly… the difference compared to riding illegally is night and day.

In this video, I break down what actually changes when you ride a road-legal e-bike, including:

Why you end up riding far more often

How being legal completely removes the stress and anxiety

Real-world reactions from the public vs online hate

The constant fear of riding illegally and having your bike seized

How police interactions are totally different when you’re compliant as you will see 1st hand in this video

A real police stop that shows exactly why being legal matters

If you’re currently riding a Surron, e-Moto, or high-power e-bike that isn’t road legal — or you’re thinking about registering one — this video gives you real-world experience, not theory or clickbait.

If you want to register your e-bike, check this video out for a step by step guide – https://youtu.be/vpPj3zgLSyY?si=C-WxcNbA4V5am7Mr

There’s a lot of misinformation online about riding electric bikes in the UK. This video is simply my honest experience after a month of riding legally, exploring more, riding stress-free, and finally enjoying the bike for what it’s meant to be.

  1. I've only got a Cube EAPC, but me and it, together weigh 150kg, it is Volspeed derestricted so it maxes out at 28mph. Which on a mixed use path or cycle lane is bloody quick and if you're doing that when people are there, walking dogs and with kids. horses trotting along etc, you're a knob head and you are the problem.

  2. Last year I went through the registration process. Had my nova number, 3 times I applied to the dvla and the lady wasn't having any of it, proof of year, I sent her a ton of evidence regarding its year. 3 times I was knocked back. Absolutely gutted. Built in my eyes a beautiful bike. Torp1000 Torp25 72v. Im 50 years old so just want to enjoy it. Im not up for police chases so its currently had 1 cycle. 😢

  3. Totally pissed off with these stupid and useless government laws, I brought a Engwe pro 3 boost advertised as legal, within 3 weeks it can be unlocked, making it illegal even if I don't unlock it. So have wasted £1549, unless I now get it registered.

  4. I've got a road legal UB, the only downside is the cost of insurance. I pay just over a grand and I've had a full motorbike licence for 20 years! I can insure a hyabusa for £400!!!!

  5. I've got a road legal UB . But the area im in within the uk lots of trail i can go to so i just take it off and put it back on when riding back. Dumb thing is my varg is cheaper to insurance than my fully modded ub

  6. Like many things in life, the few (knob heads) spoil it for the many! Loads of the knob heads where i am, wrong way on main roads, weaving dangerously etc.. I have an e-bike so not anti them at all..

  7. You are 💯 in your description of pre/post rego
I was constantly anxious, but it was "exciting" trying to determine new routes to ride, like a kid
But now that I have registered the bike, it feels comfortable and stress free
Also enjoyable seeing the faces of the karens when you ride by, I have a chuckle to myself

  8. My Talaria xxx off road has to have a msva test, so i booked it then got told via email it has to have full lights including indicators. The daft thing is it has an mot with day time only on it

  9. Its great you got it registered and road legal but now from what i have seen you have to be carful of the illegal riders wanting to rob yours off you.

  10. ICE is getting phased out… as we enter a new age, of technocracy… its not good, our freedoms are being limited by the day.

Step out of your legal fiction full caps name. It is not you, its not even english, and would be fraud if you were to claim its you.

  11. Registering your e-bike for UK legal road use means having it restricted to 30 mph that just kills it for me to do that. I live on the coast in Devon with plenty of trails and forest's etc to explore and having my 1980's HONDA XR250 to mess around on works for me and a lot cheaper than a Surron or similar that would cost me a lot more and to have its speed restricted to 30, well enough said.

, if you register your Sur-Ron for road use in the UK, its speed will be restricted to 28–30 mph, depending on the model and classification.

L1E (Light Moped) Classification: Road-legal Sur-Ron models like the Light Bee L1E and Ultra Bee T are classified under the UK’s L1E electric moped category. These are restricted to a maximum speed of 28 mph when ridden on public roads.

L3E (125cc Equivalent) Classification: Models like the Storm Bee and Ultra Bee (when road-legal) are classified as L3E and are also restricted to 30 mph on public roads.

Off-Road Use: If you remove or bypass these speed restrictions, the bike is no longer considered road-legal and can only be ridden on private land with permission. Doing so may invalidate insurance and result in legal penalties.

⚠ Important: Speed restriction is mandatory for road legality. Any attempt to exceed these limits while on public roads—whether through software or hardware modifications—can result in fines, penalty points, or vehicle seizure.

  12. I got an engwe p275se 250w and got rid of the illegal 750w fat bike, given the weight difference the drop in power isn’t that bad, it climbs really well and has a great torque sensor, I have various 125 bikes if I want something faster. But I still choose a 15.5mph ebike as it’s like the last bit of freedom transport you can use on the road.
