Hi all… my partner and I travel with our mountain bikes to Costa Rica every year. We typically rent a Toyota Prado and keep the bikes packed until we get to our destination and then unpack and ride from where where we stay. This year, we bought 2 Talon Sea Sucker racks.
We intend to mount them on the back of the Prado off to either side to maximize visibility out the back, similar to what the image on this link hopefully depicts.
My questions are 1) will having two bikes (a ~2016 Bronson and a 2021 Fuel) mounted like this be safe? 2) is there any reason we shouldn’t put them towards the side of the SUV vs. centering up more? 3) there are a lot of dirt roads in Costa Rica, some with big potholes, again, are there safety concerns?
We are two women. We could muscle them up if we had to, but prefer not too. At home we use a platform rack, but of course those are not only expensive in CR, but most rentals don’t have a hitch. The Sea Sucker is our solution.
