The Tunnel des Tuileries was built in 1967 was once a dark, congested automobile only passage thoroughfare paralleling the Seine River in Paris carrying 43K cars a day.

Along with other parts of the river front, this half mile tunnel is now exclusively for bicycle, pedestrian and other rolling mode traffic being converted in 2016, carrying thousands daily. It is a key part of humanizing the river waterfront and the ongoing bicycle revolution taking place in the City of Lights. The project also demonstrates successful urban regeneration, turning infrastructure into a vibrant community asset as it carries thousands daily.

The tunnel’s walls are now an ever-changing open air gallery canvas for world-renowned street artists all creating #placemaking #bicycleurbanism and an enhanced user visitor experience. It is also an area for lively human interaction and music as you will hear from my evening ride through.
