Electric scooters recently became legal where I live and straight away "parents" were trying to get them banned. Every day a failure of a parent goes to the newspaper to tell their story about how they let their 12 year old go on an E scooter and then they never returned home. Like maybe you should have done your job and teached them how to use it, responsibily and made them wear protective gear, but nooooo, now they're telling the gov to ban them because they couldn't do their job and now me, an adult who uses them responsibly shouldn't be allowed for my own good.
Commercial sold ebikes in Australia are speed limited to 25km/h then the motor kicks out. Alot of these bikes especially those with a throttle are not ebikes they are modded with motor kits you can buy from temu or ebay or de-restricted through firmware mods so the motor never drops.
Those criminals shouldnt affect everyone else especially the land of the free

I just want to add in here that most of the problem bikes featured in this video are basically cheap bicycle to motorbike conversions that are no longer bicycles. by law these high powered modified devices are unregistered motor vehicles no different from old school 2 stroke conversions.
An ebike is a bicycle with a motor to assist pedaling and will only assist up to 25kmph per au regulations
If it has a throttle and or looks like an motor bike it’s an electric motorcycle not a bicycle and needs to adhere to the regulations for motorbikes

I converted my Samsung phone to a safe petrol powered generator nothing flammable except for the petrol and 100 texts to the gallon no hope of talking with all the racket from the engine and you need to have all the windows open in the car or any enclosed space and being a 2 stroke you need to carry oil in a syringe getting strange looks buying 1/10 liter of petrol for 18 cents and squirting 5 ml of oil in the tank getting abused for texting while filling up but way better than the inconvenience of charging a battery while you sleep. O yea Tesla,s use cylindrical laptop batteries now with a separate fuse on each cell with liquid cooling and phones use flat pouch cells kept warm in your pocket and charged safely on your wooden bed side table, like your cordless power tools on the workbench in the shed. If you thrash things and ignore instructions you will have problems and the cheapest has the least safety measures and technology improves with time and large scale testing ( selling to millions that will come up with new unimagined ways to stuff things up over long periods )

We love ebikes in America, and not for crime. We do it to commute without involving the bureaucracy. It seems like you have a problem in Australia, well lots of problems, from entitled people who think they own the world, yeah? First your aussie karens came for out video games, now the ebikes? Bro im in south america and ebikes are just the start… theres straight up gas motors on bikes installed by some stoned guy named renzo. Theres huge "bikeways" here too and people rip like 80kph on these jalopy bikes, fully carefree. Its pretty wild during rush hour, if you ride and actual bike youre in serious danger of being hit by a home made motorcycle

Most kids on these bikes try to get their bikes up to 80 mph and then they crash I'm 13 but I even believe going fast on e bikes is crazy my mini goes 45 but I limit it down to 35 because I feel like its crazy because I've almost crashed and it was the closest I've ever been to death and these kids are just having fun but a 10 y old should not be going past 40 mph

I wish the community for petrol engine kits on bicycles were as popular as Ebikes. But sadly they are seen everywhere as a motorbike and so the law makes it very difficult and its not like a bicycle with a petrol engine is easily registered and insured.
in nsw you can't have a surron, because you can't have any bike with a throttle that has a battery on it, unless you get rego and stuff for it like a motorbike
