This season, escape to Iceland’s East Fjords with our newest ride. We depart from the iconic peaks of Vestrahorn, but what lies ahead is equally breathtaking. For much of this ride, you’ll be sandwiched between a dramatic seascape to your right and towering, impenetrable mountains to your left.

After a flowing descent, the road stretches out across the vast Lónsvík gravel flats and lagoons. Here, the mountains rise like fortress walls while the Atlantic Ocean crashes against black sand beaches just meters away. This section is flat, fast, and rhythmic—the perfect place to lock into a sustained power effort.

The intensity ramps up as you approach the Hvalnes Lighthouse. The road begins to hug the cliffs, winding tightly between the surf and the base of massive Eystrahorn Mountain. This is the visual climax of the ride. Eystrahorn is a jagged, multi-peaked gabbro giant that looks like it was plucked straight from a fantasy novel. The road here is technical and undulating, keeping you engaged with every pedal stroke.

As you round the rugged cliffs of Eystrahorn, keep an eye to your right. You’ll pass the dark, moody expanse of Fauskasandur. This black sand beach is home to the striking Fauskastapi sea stack, a lone pillar of rock standing defiant against the North Atlantic waves. It’s a moment of raw, natural beauty before the landscape begins to shift.

The road soon gives way to the calm, wide waters of Álftafjörður. Named “Bay of Swans” for the thousands of whooper swans that gather here, this final stretch is a serene cruise along the water’s edge.

Just Add Music
Most cyclists agree that rides like Col du Tourmalet are outstanding, but opinions on music vary. So we’ve made it easy—add your own! Simply mute the video, open your favorite streaming service (Spotify, YouTube, etc.), and ride to whatever soundtrack suits your mood.

We’ve omitted the original audio since road noise, wind, and breathing typically overpower the natural sounds anyway.
