We took the bus from Grindelwald up the mountain to Grosse Scheidegg. We left our panniers at the hotel, so we’re traveling light today. You can pay the fare on the bus, and bike rack reservations are recommended, this was around $100 for 2 of us. We started our bike ride at 6,450′ elevation at the top of Grosse Scheidegg. There were two guys in vintage leather jackets, riding vintage mopeds up the hill, they we’re pretty funny. Also, lots of competitive cyclist biking uphill. It was a fun several hours of coasting down for us; our brakes got a good workout. We took frequent ‘breaks’ to not over heat the ‘brakes’ and give our fingers a break.

We ended in Meirengen where we took the train to Brienz; we had biked this route the previous day so we didn’t want to repeat it. We had a nice Coop picnic lunch on the Brienz dock. I had a slight crash in Brienz near the train station, my front wheel caught a curb cut and scrubbed the bike to a stop. I fell off, didn’t get hurt, but my derailleur took a hit, and the hanger got bent. Luckily I had a spare which I swapped out. The shifting wasn’t quite shifting right, there was no “b tension”, but also lucky for me there was a bike shop 100m away, and they quickly got it sorted. I didn’t have the derailleur mounted on the hanger correctly, the flat on the hanger that the “B” screw pushes against wasn’t lined up with the “b” screw adjuster; quick fix and we were off again.

From Brienz, we biked and hiked to Giessbach falls, saw views of the Giessbach hotel, enjoyed the view of Iseltwald (which looks like a castle on an island). We finished our ride in Interlaken Ost (East). We took the train back to our hotel in Grindelwald (no bus transfer needed this time).

We wrapped up our day around 9pm, another full day of biking. Unfortunately Strava shit the bed and I lost half the ride, we did 28.6 miles, with 1695′ of climbing.
