Wondering if this much wear is normal. And if I should be a lot more serious about cleaning brake surface + pads going forward? Been deep-cleaning them every ~750km on average as well as a quick wash along with the rest of the bike every ~400km. I have done a handful of rides in nasty weather (pouring rain or in slushy snow / road salt), but generally only in dry conditions

And can I keep riding them for another 4000+km?

The deep linear scoring in photo 2 makes me think you should check your brake pads for debris.

  2. Are you using the correct brake pads for carbon fiber rims? How often do you clean the pads?

I’m asking because in the second photograph the deep groove on the braking surface makes me thing that there must have been something embedded in the brake pad.

  3. Are ypu sure you have brake pads for carbon? What brand and compound? Just buy specific brake pads for this wheel set or some more medium compound. Also I would buy second aluminum wheelset ex from Mavic and use it for winter rides.

Probably heavy braking in salt, mud did it but wear seem to be excessive. I ride with my carbon wheels only in the summer, after few rains in the spring and before they start pouring salt on the roads.

I have Fulcrum racing zero from 2015. Rode lots of times in the rain, down the mountains, with debris on the braking tracks mostly in the back wheel. Front wheel still look good. Back wheel strating to be worn out. Used mostly original red fulcrum red pads.
