Founded in the 9th century, Marburg is a German city steeped in history and charm. Our journey begins at the magnificent Marburg Castle, perched high above the city, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings. The castle, dating back to the 11th century, has witnessed significant historical events, including the Marburg Colloquy in 1529, where Martin Luther and Ulrich Zwingli debated the nature of the Eucharist.
From this vantage point, we descend into the charming old town, a labyrinth of picturesque half-timbered houses. As we stroll through the cobbled streets, we observe the locals enjoying the beautiful weather, relaxing in quaint cafes, and embracing the city’s vibrant atmosphere. Marburg, with a population of around 76,000 residents, is also home to the Philipps University, founded in 1527, making it one of the oldest Protestant universities in the world.
Our exploration continues to the enchanting Botanical Garden of Marburg, where the rhododendrons are in full bloom, painting the landscape with vibrant colors and adding to the serene beauty of the park.
With its fascinating history, stunning architecture, and natural beauty, Marburg offers a unique blend of medieval charm and vibrant modern life. Join us on an enchanting walking tour through the historic city of Marburg, nestled in the German state of Hesse.
